Finally was published a paper, (which I'm co-author) about taxonomic status of two anoles species that were named by Ernest E. Williams and Kenneth Miyata. They deceased a while ago but never published their findings. After a long time, Steven Poe invited me to collaborate in this paper to clarify taxonomic status of both species, incorporating old and new data in a modern phylogenetic framework and updating occurrence distribution. Both species have been associated with names that are nomina nuda. We scored the new species for skeletal and external morphological phylogenetic characters and performed a parsimony analysis with 251 additional Anolis species using molecular and morphological data. Anolis anchicayae is sister to A. peraccae in a basal group of South American ‘‘alpha’’ Anolis (‘‘dactyloids,’’ ‘‘latifrons’’ group). Anolis lyra is placed with other lemurinus-group Anolis within the large clade of mainland ‘‘beta’’ Anolis (‘‘Norops’’).5/29/2009
